Beyond Index Options: Extended-Hours Trading Expands to Single-Stock and ETF Options
Tradier builds on its extended-hours index options offering as Cboe expands pre-market and post-market sessions to select single-stock and ETF options.

Building on its support for extended-hours index options trading, Tradier is supporting Cboe’s expansion of pre-market and post-market trading to select single-stock and ETF options. This expansion gives traders greater flexibility to navigate the markets and access options trading opportunities beyond regular market hours.
Markets don’t stop moving when the closing bell rings. Earnings announcements, economic data, and global developments can influence market expectations well before the opening bell or after the close. For options traders, the ability to respond to these developments outside traditional trading hours can be an important part of managing positions and evaluating opportunities.
Tradier already supports extended-hours index options trading, and now Cboe is expanding extended-hours trading to select single-stock and exchange-traded fund (ETF) options. This expansion marks another step toward broader options market access beyond traditional trading hours.
Launched on October 19, 2026, on Cboe Options Exchange (C1), the initiative introduces additional pre-market and post-market sessions for eligible equity options. Tradier is proud to support this development as the options market continues to evolve.
Expanding Extended-Hours Trading Beyond Index Options
Extended-hours options trading is not new. Eligible index options have already provided opportunities to trade beyond regular market hours. What makes Cboe’s latest initiative significant is the expansion to selected options on individual stocks and ETFs.
This distinction matters because different products can respond to different market developments. Index options can provide exposure to broader market movements, while single-stock options may be influenced by company-specific events, such as earnings announcements. ETF options can offer exposure to broad-market indexes, sectors, and other market segments.
By introducing extended-hours sessions for select single-stock and ETF options, Cboe is broadening the range of products eligible for trading outside traditional hours.
For traders, this creates additional opportunities to evaluate market conditions and respond to developments before the opening bell or after the regular session ends, subject to product availability and market conditions.
As Peter Laptewicz, Chief Product Officer at Tradier, explains:
“Markets don't wait for the opening bell, and neither should our clients. Cboe's GTH equities options session will give Tradier clients the flexibility to react to market-moving events in real time, rather than having to wait for regular trading hours. We're proud to support Cboe in expanding access and opportunity for active traders.”
What Are the New Extended-Hours Trading Sessions?
Cboe’s new sessions for eligible single-stock and ETF options operate Monday through Friday, subject to exchange rules and product eligibility.
| Trading session | Hours (ET) |
| Global Trading Hours (GTH) | 7:30 a.m.–9:25 a.m. |
| Regular Trading Hours (RTH) | 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. |
| Curb Trading Hours | 4:00 p.m.–4:15 p.m. |
These sessions apply to designated options on Cboe C1. Certain ETF options already have regular trading sessions that extend to 4:15 p.m. ET.
Extended-hours index options operate on their own schedules, with eligible contracts offering overnight and other extended sessions. The latest initiative builds on that existing market by extending additional trading opportunities to select single-stock and ETF options.
Importantly, extended-hours trading does not mean every options contract is available throughout the day and night. Trading hours and eligibility vary by product and exchange.

Why Extended-Hours Equity Options Matter
More flexibility around market-moving news
Earnings announcements, economic reports, and global developments can influence markets outside regular trading hours. Additional sessions may give eligible traders more opportunities to evaluate these developments and respond without necessarily waiting for the next regular session.
More opportunities to manage positions
Traders holding options tied to individual stocks or ETFs may have additional opportunities to assess or adjust eligible positions around market-moving events. Actual execution depends on liquidity, pricing, order restrictions, and market conditions.
A broader range of options beyond the traditional session
The expansion builds on existing extended-hours index options trading and brings selected single-stock and ETF options into additional sessions. It represents a further development in how the options market accommodates activity outside traditional U.S. market hours.
Extended-hours trading also carries distinct risks. Liquidity may be lower, bid-ask spreads may be wider, and prices may fluctuate more sharply. Order types and execution rules can vary by session, and orders may not execute at the expected price—or at all. Traders should understand these risks and consider their individual circumstances before placing orders.
Tradier Supports the Evolution of Options Trading
As options markets evolve, access to trading opportunities outside traditional market hours continues to expand.
Tradier already supports extended-hours index options trading and is proud to support Cboe’s initiative to extend additional sessions to select single-stock and ETF options. This development builds on existing capabilities while reflecting a broader shift toward greater flexibility in when eligible options can be traded.
For traders, understanding the products available, the sessions in which they trade, and the risks involved remains essential to making informed decisions.
